Here’s how you can join Sunday’s local motorcycle ride for charities

There are Distinguished Gentleman’s Rides being organized in southeast Michigan for this weekend.

Sunday’s Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride isn’t just the world’s largest motorcycling charity event — it’s a chance to wear your best threads on your bike and raise serious money for multiple charities.

If you live in metro Detroit, it’s not too late to register for the event, which has raised over $40 million for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health initiatives since 2003.

According to the ride’s promotional release, the annual international charity event “celebrates classic and vintage styled motorcycles and the dapper gentlefolk that ride them.

Three Detroit-area riders — Todd Hipsky, Andrew Nichols and Karla Waterhouse — have all raised over $1,000 heading into Sunday’s ride, details of which can be found on the DGR website.

The 2023 ride is expected to include over 90,000 riders in 900 cities across 105 countries.

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was founded in Sydney, Australia, by Mark Hawwa.

Inspired by a photo of TV Show Mad Men’s Don Draper astride a classic bike and wearing his finest suit, Hawwa decided a themed ride would be a great way of connecting niche motorcycle enthusiasts and communities while raising funds to support the men in our lives.

On Sunday, tens of thousands of distinguished gentlefolk in hundreds of cities worldwide will don their cravats, tweak their moustaches, press their tweed, and sit astride their classic and vintage styled motorcycles to raise funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and men’s mental health programs.

Movember, the charity overseeing the event, creates positive change for men’s health by raising awareness and educating men year-round, and through our annual fundraising campaign that takes place every November.

Funds raised through The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride are having an impact on men around the world. For a breakdown of all funded projects to date with Movember and to explore the projects in more detail, you can download the Investment Report here.
