The Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s is proud to announce a collaboration with Michigan owned and operated, Born in Detroit Apparel, LLC, with the launch of an exclusive Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s Team23 collection apparel line.
A portion of proceeds from this limited-edition apparel line will benefit the foundation, which was formed by former professional baseball player and manager, Kirk Gibson, after his diagnosis with Parkinson’s disease in 2015. Apparel is available now through May 10, 2023, exclusively online at KirkGibsonFoundation.org
The limited-edition apparel is cobranded with Born in Detroit and the Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s and features a variety of clothing options for both men and woman, a tote, and beanie, knit and snapback hats.
Local legend giving back
Kirk Gibson spent most of his career with the Detroit Tigers, but also played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Kansas City Royals and Pittsburgh Pirates. Gibson is currently the color commentator for the Detroit Tigers and special assistant to the Tigers. Gibson wore jersey #23 which was the inspiration for the formation of “Team23” within the Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s. Team23 is the grassroots fundraising and volunteer team for the Foundation.
Born in Detroit was trademarked in 2015 and brought to life in 2020 by a group of true Detroiters, two sets of brothers Michael and Anthony Tomey and George and Alex Bourkoulas along with their friend, Michael “Mikey” Shumaker.
The mission of Born in Detroit is to showcase the pride of Detroiters near and far, and to establish a brand partner to champion the city and surrounding communities.
Born In Detroit was created to honor that pride that Detroit is more than a city, it is that feeling of pride, hard work and perseverance. You do not need to be born in Detroit, to be a proud “Detroiter”, and you can wear Born in Detroit and showcase to the world how much this city means to you.
Team23 collection unveiled
“The foundation is always asked if there are clothing options available and now for the first time with this limited-edition Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s Team23 collection, people will be able to showcase their pride in the foundation, all while helping support the Parkinson’s Community and Team23”, said Michelle Newman, COO for The Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s.
“We are proud to partner with the Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s. Being a former baseball player myself, I have always had a huge respect for Kirk Gibson as a player, and now even more so with all he does for his foundation. We are happy to join his team and to be able to help support his mission to help others with Parkinson’s”, said Anthony Tomey, Co-Owner, Born in Detroit, and The Tomey Group.
